| Medical Lab Technology Program The Medical Laboratory Technology program is designed to prepare students to perform manual and automated tests on patients' specimens under the supervision of physicians, lab managers or laboratory technologists, employed in hospitals, independent laboratories or doctors' offices. Students will also be taught lab quality control, including the preventative and corrective maintenance of instrumentation and equipment. The core curriculum is structured to include a lecture component, an laboratory component, and a clinical component. The final externship portion of the curriculum consists of supervised experiences in a clinical environment, which requires competencies, logs, and evaluations completed by the student. At the conclusion of the program, graduates who have diligently attended class and their externship, studied, and practiced their skills should have the skills to seek entry-level employment as medical laboratory technicians. Sanford-Brown College - Houstons Medical Laboratory Technician program is programmatically accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS). This means that students are eligible take the Medical Laboratory Technician certification exam offered by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) upon graduation and the AMT national certification exams for Medical Laboratory Technicians.
